After School Enrichment Classes
Willowbrook offers a variety of enriching after school classes on site. Some programs are run by Willowbrook and others are offered by separate companies. Not all classes are offered every semester, so please check with the office for a schedule and to receive contact information for each program coordinator.
Willowbrook Sora Class
Sora class is a mixed-age after school program where children are able to play and interact with each other in a safe and fun English environment. Activities include: science experiments, arts and crafts, story time, music and movement, and more. The program runs from 2:00-6:00pm each day and is taught by Willowbrook teachers. Parents may pick their children up any time during the Sora schedule, though Willowbrook charges in one hour increments. The basic schedule is as follows:
- 2:00 - Arrival
- 2:00-3:15 - Learning Centers
- 3:15-3:30 - Clean-Up Time
- 3:30-3:45 - Snack
- 3:45-4:00 - Circle/Story Time
- 4:00-5:00 - Special Activity
- 5:00-5:15 - Additional Snack
- 5:15-5:30 - Clean-Up Time
- 5:30-6:00 - Closing Circle/Story Time
- 6:00 - Dismissal
Willowbrook Literacy Class
Children in the literacy class have loads of fun while being given the tools to grow enough confidence to read and write as well as they are able to. The class starts with a circle time including songs and quizzes. Letters and words are taught in the form of confidence building, teamwork enhancing, sometimes competitive but always fun games, songs and role plays.
Art
Children work on a canvas over the course of one to three months, adding layers and details as they learn about different techniques and materials. They learn how to use modeling paste, masking ink, spray paint, dripping paint, acrylic paint, etc. They also work on 3D art and free acrylic painting.
Ballet
The International Dance Academy holds a class at Willowbrook for 3-5 year-olds. The academy has been providing comprehensive dance instruction at international schools in Tokyo for more than twenty years.
Drama - Tokyo Bees
Tokyo Bees runs the popular Helen O’Grady classes for children in Tokyo. This program has been running successfully for over 30 years in 26 countries! The program follows a highly dynamic and fun curriculum that focuses on developing vital life skills in children like confidence building, language and communication skills, effective social interaction, by tapping into the child's own creativity.
Steam Club
School Tribe’s STEAM Club is science technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). This program encourages critical thinking and problem solving while strengthening children’s ability to turn 2D prototypes (ideas) into 3D working models (products). Lessons in science provide an intro to experimental design and scientific methodology. While tech classes provide an early entry into robotic manipulation and coding. Classes are geared toward leaders of the future with an interest in product design and development, and a passion for creating, building, tinkering, and problem-solving with the use of technology in a safe and nurturing environment.
Chinese for Fun
This program provides young children with a fun opportunity to learn! Children learn interesting facts about China, its people, its history, and its culture. This program includes various lesson plans with games, books, songs, role plays, dance, fun puzzles, and other non-traditional resources to help children learn Chinese in fun ways.
Japanese for Fun
Children learn Japanese, hiragana, katakana, and kanji though handmade materials, flash cards, picture books, and fun games. Children will also enjoy traditional Japanese songs and events in making origami crafts and drawing.
Music and Violin
There are multiple programs that run music and violin lessons for Willowbrook students. The lessons are offered by skilled and knowledgeable instructors.
